SARA Licensing Courses
Ham radio is fun. If it wasn’t fun, we wouldn’t do it!
Ham radio means getting to talk to satellites using a hand-held radio – or talking to your fellow Hams around the world. Most of us had someone introduce us to Amateur Radio, and we’d like to introduce you to our hobby and invite you to join. Getting your first Ham license (Technician), or upgrading to General or Extra is now as simple as studying a book and taking a test – or coming to one of our free local courses – no Morse Code necessary!
What we offer
Sawnee Amateur Radio Association offers free classes for the Technician License for people new to Amateur Radio, and a General License course for those that wish to upgrade. For those seeking an Extra we offer a Q&A based Workshop format to help fill in the gaps in your radio knowledge. Each course is 5 weeks long (one class a week), and on the 6th week we offer a testing session. The course itself is free, although you will need the book we’re using and $15 for the testing session fee.
- Extra Workshop
Is to be offered from May 6th to June 3rd with a test date of June 10th.
- General Course
Jack Fisher, KC4I and John Dabney, NJ4CD are running the General Course from January 14th to February 25th (class extended due to snow day) with a test date of March 4th.
- Technician Course
Will be taught by John Munday, W4JNM from September 16th to October 14th with a test date of October 21st.
Please email us if you are interested in the next edition of either course, as registration is required so there are materials for everyone. Each planned class will be confirmed when the minimum number of students have expressed interest in attending a course.
Students are now responsible for obtaining their own books. Please let us know if you have a problem finding it.
